Call For Makers

So you would like to be an exhibitor at Maker Faire Burlington?


Please read carefully and fill out the Call for Makers application below.


Maker Faire Burlington is April 13, 2019, 10am-5pm. It is North Carolina’s largest and longest running Maker Faire (now in our 8th year!). We attract a diverse audience of attendees from all over the state and this is made possible by you! Maker exhibitors show off inspirational projects, skills, inventions, art, and maker businesses. Maker Faire is YOUR platform to inspire, educate, and entertain others. We are excited that you want to share and inspire at Maker Faire Burlington!


What kind of exhibit should I have? The best exhibits are those that are interactive where the visiting public can get their hands dirty making something or doing something. Next best are those exhibits that demonstrate or teach something. We also accept static exhibits that are informational or inspirational. Individuals, groups, makerspaces, schools, universities, libraries, or small maker businesses may apply for space to show off what they do.


Age requirements? We accept makers of any age, although we expect any maker exhibitors under the age of 18 to have permission from an adult, and the support and help of a responsible adult during the event.


How much is it? Exhibiting is FREE for those who are not selling directly from their exhibit. For those selling directly from their exhibit there is a $35 fee to be paid at time of checking in.


When is the deadline to apply? Applications can be submitted until March 22, 2019.




Exhibitors are expected to:


  • Conduct safe exhibits and do everything in their power to mitigate any risks or exposures created by their exhibit or performance.
  • Communicate any changes about their exhibit plans or ability to exhibit in a timely manner (we understand that things come up, illness, work, transportation problems… just let us know asap if there are issues with your exhibit!)
  • Arrive early with enough time to setup and be ready and operational by the time the Maker Faire opens to the public.
  • Stay with your exhibit throughout the day (Volunteers will be available to let you take short breaks as needed, especially for one or two person exhibits)
  • Be open, friendly, communicative, and accessible to event attendees.
  • Not take down their exhibit or leave prior to the end of our Maker Faire event.
  • Promote your exhibit through your social media, fans, and audience and share any photos or video that you create at the event.
  • Have a safe, productive, and fun time at our Maker Faire!


What you can expect from us:


  • Instructions and guidance on how to exhibit with us
  • Volunteers to help you load in and tear down
  • Minimum of 10×10 exhibit space (larger spaces or outside spaces available)
  • Electricity (110 Volt AC) is available for those who request it
  • Promotion of your exhibit via our Website and Social Media
  • Box Lunch (for a small fee for those who request it)
  • Our gratitude and the smiles on our attendee’s faces.


Note: Tables and Chairs are in short supply at our event venue. We ask that those exhibitors who can  please bring their own tables and chairs. Those who need a table and two chairs can request them as part of the Call for Makers process and we will assign available tables and chairs to folks on a first-come-first-serve basis. Additional tables may be available for a rental fee at the event.


How our call for makers application process works:


  • Fill out the Call for Makers application (below) with as much detail as possible. We use your exhibit name, description, and submitted photos to create your exhibitor landing page on our website.
  • Once you submit your application you should receive an automated e-mail letting you know that we’ve received your application.
  • We will process through applications about every two weeks between the start and end of our call for Makers.
  • As we evaluate your application we will contact you to let you know that you have been accepted, rejected, or that we have more questions.
  • If you are accepted you will receive additional e-mail messages closer to the event date with questions about your lunch choices, table assignments, and full instructions for exhibiting with us.
  • After the event we’ll ask you to fill out a survey about your experience, and we ask that you share your photos/videos/blog-posts/stories with us and our wider audience.


Exhibit space is limited, we evaluate exhibits on a first-come-first-serve basis and based upon merit (how interactive or inspirational they are). To guarantee your exhibit space please fill out our call for makers form as soon as possible. Please also consider sharing this call for makers form with any other makers you know in North Carolina or in the region who may wish to exhibit with us.
